매듭의 기원 ORIGIN OF KNOTS

there was a time

when people forgot how to pray.

so the gods buried the people underground.

eventually, the people forgot even more.

and more.

and

more.

until

life above ground began to die.

the tree roots and mycelium realized they needed humans to survive.

they knotted themselves into the shapes of flowers, insects, fruit, animals, and clouds

to remind the people what was above.

memories of life overhead began to arise.

through that remembrance the humans felt grateful

and wanted to express their gratitude.

they began to pray.

suddenly, all the roots and rhizomes broke open the earth

and the people climbed them up

and out.

finally reunited with all creation, the people began to put

knots on their tools and bodies

so as to remind them to pray.
